Free Pillow Pattern: DIY Paw Pillow

This adorable paw pillow makes great decor for any bed or couch!  It’s made from soft fleece fabric to make it extra cozy.  Mix and match colors and patterns to make a whole colorful collection!

Pillow is 15” x 14” when finished.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 1/2 yard fleece fabric for the pillow (note 1)

  • 2 sheets of felt fabric for the paw pad and toes (note 2)

  • polyester stuffing (note 3)

  • fusible web and iron or hot glue gun (note 4)

  • pattern pieces

 

Supply notes:

Note (1) Fleece fabric is recommended because it’s softness is perfect for pillows.  But you can substitute other fabric types as desired. 

Note (2) You will need a fabric types which does not fray around the edges to make the paw prints.  Felt is recommended.  You can also use fleece.

Note (3) Polyester stuffing is recommended. 

Note (4) Fusible web is used to iron on the paw prints to the pillow.  As an alternative, you can also glue the prints on using a hot glue gun and glue sticks.

Step by step instructions:

Cut and tape the pattern pages

The pattern pieces print on multiple pages and need to be taped together.  Use the letters as a guide to taping the pieces together.  Match up the letters and tape along the dashed lines.

Cut the fabric pieces

Step 1. Pin the pillow pattern to double layered fabric and cut one.

Step 2. Pin the sides pattern to double layered fabric and cut one.

Step 3.  With fabric right sides together, stitch the ends of the two sides to make one long piece.

Step 4. Pin the paw pads and all 4 toes pattern to single layered felt fabric and cut one of each.

Iron the paw prints (or hot glue)

Step 5. Remove one side of the backing on the fusible web and attach the paw pad and four toes. Cut around the edges.

 Step 6. Remove the backing from the other side of the fusible web and attach the pieces to the right side of one of the pillow pieces.  Make sure you are attaching to the RIGHT side of the pillow fabric.  Iron on.

Stitch pieces together

Step 7. With fabric right sides together, stitch along the entire edge of the side fabric to the edge of one of the pillow pieces.

Step 8.  With fabric right sides together, stitch the open ends of the sides pieces together.

Step 9. With fabric right sides together, pin and stitch along the edges of the other side of the side fabric to the other pillow fabric, leaving an opening to reverse and stuff.

Step 10. Reverse right side out.

Step 11.  Stuff with polyester stuffing.

Step 12.  Stitch the opening closed using a ladder stitch.
